The Calgary Track Council has been instrumental in bringing major events to our city. For two back-to-back years, in 2011 and 2012 (Olympic Trials), Calgary was host to the Canadian Track and Field Championships. See pictures
The Calgary Track Council chose to utilize the Run, Jump, Throw program as an element of the Canadian Championships to introduce children to physical literacy, sport for life and fundamental movement skills. By connecting children and school teachers to the RJT program, the CTC is able to deliver a positive experience for children to get involved, get active and learn fundamental skills that would transcend to all land based sports.

Calgary Track Council Ensures:
- consistent, primary communication with the City of Calgary Recreation as a single point of contact in regards to facility development
- that projects and activities that are best accomplished through the collaborative efforts of multiple clubs and organizations are facilitated jointly rather than in isolation
- one link with the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School Board to enhance track and field activities in the school system as an integral part of the track community and the initiative
- provision of the meet and infrastructure management required to host all track competitions at Glenmore and Foothills Athletic Park
- a close working relationship with the Recreation Department to maintain Glenmore and Foothills Athletic Park tracks to the quality that will be competition ready
- they can serve as Bid Champion for major track and field events on behalf of a unified group of clubs
- appropriate technical support is available to other Southern Alberta Associations
- the collective utilization (sharing) of track and field equipment and facility rentals
- support for training and development of track and field officials
What has the Calgary Track Council done lately?
- Purchased Field implements, hurdles. New camera, photo eye and accessories for Track Timing to allow for a complete 2nd timing setup.
- Two facilitators have been certified to allow for training future instructors in Southern Alberta; (training was not currently available under the existing Alberta system)
- 30 instructors have been certified to instruct the Run, Jump, Throw programs
- 30 Calgary schools participated in full day RJT presentations at each of their schools since 2011
- 180 children (full capacity registration) participated in the All Sport One Day Run, Jump, Throw program at Foothills Athletic Park and Cardel Place (first time that the RJT program has been offered as part of this Sport Calgary initiative)
- The City of Calgary Recreation is now offering fundamental movement programs that include Run, Jump, and Throw due to their involvement with CTC
